Evangelion is DEFINITELY one of the few animaes that you NEEEEED to watch, no matter if ur a basement-dwelling weeb or an actual functioning member of society
this series single-handedly changed the way media is made, so you BETTER put some respect on Anno's name.
anyways. glazing out of the way. Evangelion is one of those series that you will never fully understand, but god will you be glad you watched it.
the characters are all flawed for a reason-to show humanity and be relatable. Each character is able to represent ideologies and concepts that we have all went through in life (even if you don't want to admit it)
have father issues? Misato! tend to push yourself too far for the validation of others or feel the need to grow up fatser than others? Asuka!
feel like you only exist for the convenience of others? Rei! have both mother and father issues AND unknowingly push others away for fear of hurting them? Shinji!
(thats barely scratching the surface, you get the point)
One thing that does make this a bit unenjoyable is the fact that the episodes get weirder and less coherent the more it goes along, but honestly? I get it.
the descent into madness of the end few episodes shows the insides of Shinji's psyche- warped and distorted by not only his own issues, but others' too.
it could also be said that this can be used as a metaphor/stand-in for ANY sort of mental health issue
